you guys liked the felt food so much that i thought i'd go with it. :)
while passing thru the main office, ella saw a pumpkin on the reception desk and wanted one for herself, so out came the felt bag! this was a simple project and i hope everybody will try it. you need six ovals with their ends cut off for the pumpkin body (rudi dubbed this shape an "otangle"), a long rectangle for the stem, and some black scraps of any shape and size. (you might also want a green or brown pipe cleaner--i forgot about that when i was taking pictures of the pieces):
sew the otangles together on their curvy sides. then close the bottom, and stuff. roll the brown rectangle so it makes a stem and stitch the loose end in place. then gather the top of the pumpkin, insert the stem, and pull the gathering TIGHT. i stitched the stem into the gathered opening because i knew that ella would try to carry it around by the stem (which she did). before you sew the last bit of the opening, twirl the pipe cleaner around your finger, then insert one end next to the stem and finish closing the top. then just cut face pieces from the black felt and commence to face-making!
our pumpkin has lots of different shapes for face parts, but ella only wants to put a smile on him because "he's so happy for see me!". and she's right, he is happy, just look at him!
ps--people often ask me why ella is wearing something different in every picture even when the post is supposed to be showing a sequence of steps--its because, dear friends, we practically LIVE in the costume shop and she is constantly pulling things off shelves and out of boxes and off racks and having a dress parade. the striped thing she is wearing in this post is a shrug, not toddler size, which she says is a circus costume.
