first, i want to thank everybody who has helped spread the word about KIVA and Zulhumor! in just 24 hours we've DOUBLED her funding! she is so close, i know we can get her to the top and on her way to a brighter future.
in the meantime, all i have to share with you right now are some pictures of things i've been working on. i'm about to go into full-frontal sewing mode soon, so there will be plenty of fabric and patterns to gawk at soon enough, but for now it is knitting.
since joining ravelry i have been fueling my obsession with hand-knitted dishcloths. they are the ideal project for a knitter like me--they are small (like socks), they take very little yarn (unlike socks), and even if they turn out the wrong size, you can still use them (again, unlike socks). plus they give me a chance to practice more complicated patterns on a small scale, which i can manage, rather than on a sweater which i cannot manage.
i joined the knit and crochet dishcloth exchange group and have so far made:
for the animal-theme swap, a diagonal owl, and an elephant, both of which just seemed to me to need embroidery:
for the spring-themed swap, an april showers cloth and a may flowers scrubbie (the scrubbie is a combination of loom knitting and crochet, my own pattern, inadvertently--i was trying to make marlo's sunflower scrubber, however see my previously-mentioned tragic crochet disability):
for the earth day-themed swap, mountains and rivers, and ocean waves surrounded by seashells (another of my own patterns, more on that in a minute):
about the oceans cloth: i knitted that one on my other new obsession, a knitting machine, specifically a bond ultimate sweater machine (USM) that i got from joanns. i know--lots of people detest this machine, but i LOVE it, i found it pretty straightforward to learn and i was up and knitting in no time. i have made a lot more dishcloths on it, all with different edgings (seems like it would be good practice for crocheting but alas, i appear to be congenitally unable to crochet correctly). with the USM i can knit and finish a dishcloth in 30 MINUTES. that is a lot of instant gratification.
and no, knitting on a machine is NOT cheating--i use a sewing machine too.
