we are signed up for an online homeschool valentine's day class party thru currclick and the teacher invited the students to send in pictures of their valentines to share with the class. these are the ones ella made this year, they are super simple, use things we already had around the house, and satisfy the primary requirement i have for a child's craft project: it should be doable by the child.
to make them, i first had ella shave crayons onto a sheet of wax paper, then i laid another sheet of wax paper on top and, this is very important: crimp the edges together! otherwise you will have a mess. you can probably figure out how i know this. :)
then she ironed the wax sheets together, melting the crayon shavings. this is the part you might choose to do yourself. i let ella do it because she has been ironing some recently and is pretty good at it, although my iron is a little too heavy for her still. (i was too busy supervising the hot iron/hot wax process to get any pictures).
then she cut the hearts from the ironed sheets, freehand, which i think makes much sweeter hearts than ones cut using a template. she wrote a message on each heart with a sharpie and then carefully arranged them on a plate for your viewing pleasure.
some of these she plans to give away. the rest we'll hang in our windows so the sunlight can shine thru them.
what kind of valentines are you making this year?
